Father Peter discusses the ways we expect things of ourselves at Christmas through comparisons. The spirit of comparison robs us of joy, leaving us feeling burdened and heavy, desiring what other people have rather than what God is calling our very selves to be. This steals our identity and makes us lethargic. Yesterday’s Gospel shows us how we can prevent this… The first thing we can do is find gratitude for the many ways the Lord has blessed us. This in turn, allows us to build up other people, encouraging and affirming them. All of this can lead us to develop a deeper life of prayer, which in itself will help us to fight off the spirit of comparison and help us to live the truth – the truth that I am enough and that I matter.
